Digital nomad for 10 days. We've been hearing about this for a few years and I was curious to test the experiment. Destination Spain for 10 days of remote work...
As a freelance web designer we are free to work from home, from a coffee shop, in a co-working space or in the offices of a foreign company that has implemented a team with us. So why not take the experience further? That's why I tested the mobile digital adventure in Spain for 10 days.
The world has never been smaller than it is today
We all have some stereotypes of digital nomad in mind that we saw on Instagram around a pool with a cocktail in hand. Sorry, I'm not going to make you dream for the shot, it's rather a willingness to share the experience in a concrete way mixing work time and pleasure.
My desire for HappyDesk, a new generation of digital agency or studio, is to bring a new experience to customers. I use technology to secure the experience and enable a future for my clients, as well as for me.
The digital nomadic experience is only a logical continuation of my goal. And I was quick to test the experiment for real!
There is a Youtube video in which I describe this at the bottom of the article. Support me by subscting to the YouTube channel "Happy Desk Design"
Working remotely is a real pleasure because you are in another country with other cultures. Spain is not idyllic compared to other parts of the world, but we are still very quickly disoriented.
The first thing I think you have to take into account is to get organized from the start. I applied The Deep Work method, by Cal Newport and Make Time: How to Focus on What Matters Every Day, by Jake Knapp and John Zeratsky
The days are scheduled as follows: Get up around 5am-6am, work 2hours then have lunch for 1 hour and finish the session with another 2 hours of deep work. It's a method that I also apply at home and I've gained a lot of productivity.
What about my internet connection?
This is one of the things as a digital nomad that must be taken into account. Without a quick connection, we forget about working remotely. That's why you have to make sure (if possible) before.
Digital nomad without internet connection
Plan a cable ethernet plugged directly to gain speed if necessary. Living the digital nomad experience without a good internet connection can quickly turn into a nightmare.
The sun, best friend or enemy?
I tested the experiment in a country where the weather is usually nice. So I had planned my sunglasses for walks or for the beach.
Having to wear them from the first hour of work
What I didn't plan for was having to wear them from the first hour of work. Facing the sea, we are quite dazzled and I saw myself wearing my sunglasses while working on my computer. I also point out that computers have a beautiful shiny screen that is unusable on the outside...
The experience is a real pleasure and I look forward to repeating the experience. I will know what to expect and I hope you too, now that you have read this article. Maybe the next destination will be more exotic. In free time, it should be pretty cool to do great things.
