Espace Coworking and freelancing go hand in hand and offer some freedom! Not only do I have my own working hours, but I can also work from wherever I want (at home, in a café, a library and of course coworking). Did you know however that there is a place dedicated to freelancers? These are the coworking spaces. I often go there to work, I find that it creates a balance between professional and personal life. Your home will keep its cosy side.
On the other hand, in coworking areas, the opportunities are by tens (or even more). I regularly meet new professionals there, but not only. Most of them are driven by the same passion that drives you: that of developing your business.
You can expect to sign new contracts, or meet other web designers who are also passionate about Webflow or Wordpress.
As you are starting to freelance (or have plans to do so), I thought it was a good thing to share with you my experiences in the different coworking spaces I was able to test in Brussels.
#spacecoworking #coworking #brussels
But tell me, do you prefer to work at home or in public places?
A-I am very sociable by nature, I love public places, and I am very curious to see the advantages of working in coworking spaces.
B-I'm pretty introverted... I stay in my own little bubble, it's better for everyone...
Feel free to give your opinion in commentary
NB: I will quote these coworking spaces randomly. Their order is therefore not at all related to my preferences.
1. Coworking Area Silversquare
Silversquare has several premises in Brussels, but I could only test the one located at Avenue Louise (Avenue Louise 523, 1050 Brussels) . Personally, I found the welcome, the atmosphere and the location great! I spent a great day between the Bois de la Cambre and the city.
It has an ideal location, which explains the fact that it's very busy; I've seen different profiles of entrepreneurs there, working in different fields. Especially since all means of transport lead there: vehicle, train, bicycle, subway...
So, if you want to create a network, you know where to start your quest ;)
If you're one of those introverted people who don't like to be around the world, I suggest you go to Silversquare. Indeed, don't think that coworking space necessarily means public space where a lot of people gather.
On the contrary, in Silversquare, there are private offices. And if one of your prospects or clients asks you for an appointment, but you don't have a suitable office to offer them, these offices are more than appropriate.
However, there is also plenty of space!
- Relaxation break
Sometimes you need a break . So Silversquare offers breakout zones . Yes, they do. But life isn't all work, work, work, work. They even offer breakfast and lunch on their premises.
Silversquare regularly organizes events that you can attend if you are a member. You don't have to register now. You can give it a try for a day and then see if it's worth joining or not.
Here is a page they have dedicated to the events they are organizing: https://silversquare.eu/events/.
2. ManistalCoworking Area
I really enjoyed my visit to Manistal. As soon as I stepped through the gate, I saw that it has a little bit of a "special" side compared to all the other coworking areas I've visited.
First of all, it is located in the heart of Brussels, and therefore accessible, even by public transport. Obviously, surrounded by bars, restaurants... it is well placed. This is probably why Manistal offers scooter rentals. Perhaps some of the members need to go somewhere nearby for one reason or another.
Manistal is a prestigious coworking space, so when you offer your clients a meeting on their premises, I'm sure they'll be happy to come. Plus, you have a choice of rooms:
- a large room that can accommodate 20 people
- cosy small rooms
- Relaxation break
Imagine a kitchen area (very well equipped, what's more) with a large table around which you can discuss anything and everything. During your breaks, this space is just waiting for you. And to set the mood, how about playing table football in the same room?
I feel like I'm not in a coworking space, but at home; and I love that feeling. No office pressure or stress.
Do you know BECI, the Chamber of Commerce in Brussels? Actually, Manistal is very close by. And not a day goes by without a professional event taking place there: conferences, workshops...
Even better, Manistal itself offers its own events ; these events include topics related to business issues, human relations, accounting, etc.
3. Coworking Buzzy NestSpace
Espace coworking Buzzy Nest is one of a kind. I have never seen a coworking space decorated in this way. To sum up, it has a "pop culture and year 90" decoration . Mickeys, superheroes, Tintin... You see them everywhere (and when I say "everywhere", it's really the case). Don't think it's childish, it's mostly creative. I see them as a good dose of inspiration !
It's a little different from the previous two coworking spaces. Indeed, it is located on a private estate in La Hulpe. A green landscape even surrounds it. It looks like the private home of Batman and Robin.
Although it is an estate, it is accessible by public transport; the bus stop is located at the exit of the estate. If you don't have your own means of transportation, this is not a problem.
There are different kinds of meeting rooms at Buzzy Nest. There's something for everyone. For sober meetings, however, I recommend BrainBox. If I were to introduce you to all the meeting rooms, there will be many more for a long time to come. So, if you are interested, the Buzzy Nest website is more precise: http: //www.buzzynest.com/fr/meetings.cfm.
The small lounges can also accommodate your appointments, if you want.
- Relaxation break
You will surely find this idea original, but even in the room dedicated to the coffee break, the pop culture decoration is not to be outdone. I even think it will boost your creativity, a quality that is very appreciated by web designers.
But enough about decoration, now let's talk about the equipment in the room. A coffee bean machine is available. I know that some of you love it (as I do).
And if you get hungry, there's an order and delivery service.
Right in the middle of the coworking area is what we call a Buzzy Bar. The after work events take place there. For conferences, they are usually held in the "HergéConference Room ".
If you don't want to miss anything, it's this way.
4. Coworking BeillardArea
I have nothing special to say about Espace coworking Beillard, except the way theygreet you. A few people are waiting on the ground floor, with the sole purpose of making a warm welcome.
Beillard is located in the city centre of Brussels. From an architectural point of view, there is nothing special about it. Like all coworking spaces in the city centre, it is rather modern.
On both the ground and upper floors, various office spaces, meeting rooms and alcoves are present. It's up to you to choose the one that suits you best, or the one that suits your clients (for your appointments). Not to mention the small lounges, coffee shop, inner courtyard and green space...
Reading enthusiasts will also love the fact that there's a whole bunch of them in Beillard!
- Relaxation break
Beillard also offers breakfast to those who arrive in the morning. And even with a most classic breakfast, the fact that it is eaten in the inner courtyard, with its terrace and greenery, makes it an original, copious and energizing breakfast! Nothing better to start the day.
Let's go back to the coworking space itself. A coffee corner is located in the middle, and it is filled with equally delicious preparations: granola, yoghurt, fruit, coffee, pastries, etc.
Also, the rush is at noon; this is the time when everyone gathers to enjoy the salad bar. At that moment, the atmosphere becomes even more pleasant, always with a touch of corporate.
From time to time, professional events are organized in Beillard. Be on the lookout, by visiting their website regularly.
5. Fosbury and SonsCoworking Space
I've also been looking for a place that makes you feel like you're "in the office". Espace coworking Fosbury & Sons meets my expectations in these terms. Its offices are well ordered and equipped with everything I need. I'm not going to have you tell me how much my productivity has skyrocketed!
In fact, Fosbury & Sons has coworking spaces in several places, but I only went to the one in Brussels, more precisely inBoitsfort,Chaussée de la Hulpe 185, 1170 Watermael.
You will be offered different offices, but each one is personalized (decoration level). Some are called flexible, others classic. Still others are private. There are those intended for a large number of people (for possible meetings or workshops).
- Relaxation break
Within this coworking area there is a restaurant and bar. So it's obvious that if you have any special orders, you can tell the chef. Otherwise, you can always get ready-made food from him:
- fresh fruits
- water filtered
- and many others
Note however that this restaurant is accessible to non-members, by reservation (maybe this is an opportunity for you to try it?).
Most of the events at Fosbury & Sons are for members, and therefore are by invitation. For the others, they will still have to wait and participate only in events for the public.
I am not just talking about professional events; there are also cultural and social events. To inform you a little more, I invite you to visit this page from time to time.
6. Coworking The Mug
If none of these spaces ever speak to you, or if you just want to learn about others, there are still plenty of them. Including The Mug Coworking Space . A single test day costs only €25, which is 30% cheaper than the other coworking areas.
The Mug is in Flagey. So no matter how you get there, The Mug is easily accessible.
The premises in question also contribute to giving a whole new atmosphere: a 4-storey Brussels house, rather old, but that's also what makes it so charming!
There is a meeting room there. It gives a rather quiet atmosphere, in my opinion. To book it, just follow this link.
- Relaxation break
Doesn't the name The Mug mean a lot already? It's obvious that you can easily have your coffee there, during your break hours. Indeed, two small kitchens are located there.
There are also other nice places for lunch and afterwork 200m from The Mug (Place Flagey).
As a coworking space, The Mug naturally organizes regular events. They talk about everything here.
7. Espace Coworking Transforma Bxl
I continue my experience with Espace coworking Transforma bxl, one of the coworking spaces that offers an ideal working environment!
It is located in Brussels, at this address: Avenue Jules Bordet, 13 B1140, in the city. Always, easily accessible!
- Relaxation break
You can take your breaks at Transforma Bxl wherever you like: in the break room, in your office... Or in the kitchen or the cafeteria.
And if you decide to spend a quarter of an hour in the relaxation room, maybe you'd like to play the game console inside, or just relax and watch TV ? It's really up to you!
There are several rooms and offices, each equipped with everything you need for work (scanner, photocopier, etc.). As for the meeting rooms, they can accommodate 60 people.
I have confidence in every one of these offices of Transforma Bxl! As a coworking space, it is therefore very successful. I am so at peace, that I can concentrate entirely on my work.
That's not all, Transforma bxl coworking offers you a Podcast studio and a Photo studio. To top it all off, the latter has a green canvas that can be used to create a personalised background!
There's not much to say, except that I urge you to follow their professional pages on social networks (notably Facebook and Twitter). They share all the interesting opportunities (events that could be of interest to us as professionals among others).
Sometimes they organize their own event.
8. Coworking Area SN cube
I mean, SN Cube. I also tested it, and I would say that I chose my coworking space ;) Especially since I live only ten kilometers away from their place. I go there by bike, from time to time.
If I had to sum it up in a few sentences, I would say: "very family atmosphere from the reception, the occupants welcomed me directly as if I was already one of them; very comfortable offices and work spaces, fruit and coffee available at no extra charge and the relaxation areas are very nice".
In the city centre, here is his address: 455, Mechelsesteenweg, 1950 Kraainem, Belgium.
Several meeting rooms are accessible - all of them designed to accommodate large numbers of people. For therelaxation area, large comfortable armchairs and various games await you. In short, the breaks are obviously an opportunity not to be missed to get to know new entrepreneurs and freelancers.
Moreover, Sn Cube is located in a modern building surrounded by greenery. There is an open-air parking, which gives an image of professionalism to the whole. Ideal for freelancers who make appointments with their clients; it gives them an extra cachet!
- Relaxation break
I don't remember mentioning it at the beginning, but I'm fond of this kind of detail: the fact that a coworking area provides members with a coffee machine that grinds the beans. The beverage is very fresh, but the ecology is also preserved. This is the case with SN Cube.
A squeezed orange juice machine is also present. Not to mention the basket of fresh fruit, accessible to all! I'd go so far as to say that the SN Cube team has thought of everything.
Not only are interesting events shared on their Facebook page, but they are all free. If you're not yet a member, you can still attend without any problem! You are even free to bring colleagues, friends...
For SN Cube, there is real interaction between members. The existence of the band Slack is proof of this!
Ihave specially tested these 8 coworking spaces, and I find them all equally interesting. In fact, the best coworking area is relative; it depends on each person. But if you only have to choose one, I advise you to base your choice on the location of the space and your budget. Also, the small services that make all the difference are also a criterion to consider :)
