In the old days, when creating a site, you had the choice between designing a blog or making a more professional site. With the blog, the possibilities are limited, whereas a professional site always required the call of a professional. Those days are over! Today, even beginners can create a successful website and blog. Maybe you are even one of those beginners? Do you aspire to become a professional webdesigner?
How to create a site without code?
You have a wide range of choices between the different CMS and online editors that exist: Wordpress, Wix, Webflow...
I understand you're still deciding which one to choose. I had some doubts when I first started out, too. But I assure you that once you start, nothing and no one will be able to stop you. This is the beginning of a great adventure!
In short, I advise you to choose your tool according to your project. Ask yourself why you want to create a site without code. Is it on a personal basis, for :
- present some information (showcase site)
- showcase your achievements (portfolio or CV)
- encourage interaction between Internet users (forum or blog)
Or rather, for a specific professional purpose? You would like to become a webdesigner, for example? Or are you already a webdesigner but would like to improve your skills even more?
Apart from all this, other factors also come into play:
- when do you need the site ready?
- Do you plan to learn to code one day or are you content to create sites without code?
- And many others...
Depending on your objective, you will know exactly which tool to use to create a site.
In any case, I recommend Webflow (whether you're starting or not). To create a site without a professional code, there is no better in my opinion.
Why Webflow for a site without code?
When choosing a site editor, we generally focus on these three criteria:
- technical difficulty
Personally, Webflow satisfied me in every way!
It is very easy to use. Even beginners can get into trouble! I even know some beginners who have managed to create a site without amazing code. Imagine what a professional can do.
Moreover, Webflow also allows you to create or modify the layout of a site, directly on the page. Just click on the elements (titles, images, texts...) to resize, move them...
Then, as it has a very intuitive interface, designing a site won't take up all your time. With my clients, it usually takes me 2 months to create a (medium) site, with all the features they need.
Finally, as far as rates are concerned, Webflow is well worth it!
"The result counts as much as the process of creating sites itself".
Hence the interest of establishing a precise and detailed process. For example, I create a website in 5 steps. Respecting such a method not only helps me to save time, but also to organize myself well in order to deliver my clients' projects on time.
It's just like in the kitchen. When you stick to a specific recipe, you can expect a succulent result! Of course, improvisation doesn't only bring bad things. However, improvisation doesn't necessarily rhyme with success either.
Here's an example: if you plan ahead to create a site without code, you can decide which topics or content to highlight. You also already know what to expect, right from the start of the project. If it's not important to you, it's important to your customers.
Everyone has their own way of doing things. However, I would like to share with you a method that is very appreciated in the web world: mind maps (commonly known as "mind maps"). If only to get a first idea of what your site will look like.
Creating a site without code: design at the rendezvous
Creating a website is one thing, thinking about its design is another. You don't just create a site for yourself or for your client; you do it primarily for Internet users. Therefore, the site in question must be of interest to them. To do this, you have to focus on its design.
Moreover, the design of a site is closely linked with SEO. The more attractive a site is, the more visitors it attracts, and the more search engines notice it. But then, what are the design rules for creating a site without code?
I couldn't possibly list all the rules for you. There are so many, but here are some of the most important:
- The set of colours chosen must go together.
- Don't get too many colors.
- The same goes for typography, don't choose too many. A consistent format and style are also necessary.
- Don't forget to consider mobile design, it's very important!
Other interesting tips
Before starting anything, I usually look for inspirations (be it for colors, typographies, site structure...). It's only afterwards that I let my creativity speak for itself. Only, I admit that this first step is difficult, especially if you don't have any reference yet. That's why, throughout my career, I have gathered all my sources of inspiration in one place. And I'm not stingy :) I share this little secret with those who want to go further in webdesign. Click here if you want to access it.
This dashboard saves me a lot of time! Instead of surfing the internet, looking for interesting design websites... I simply enter my login and password, and I have access to a whole bunch of inspirations.
I have also opened a private group for my students. Those who have difficulties with their project just ask for help from others. A real community of mutual help! What more could you ask for? Yes, I give a Webflow training. If you want to join us, the Webflow course is here...
